Hands On: My Warhaven First Impression

Hey there, fellow bedroom gamers! Today, I want to share my first encounter with a game that I have been waiting awhile for release - Warhaven. It's a free-to-play, big team PvP war game that immediately had me thinking of Ubisoft's For Honor, a game I've spent many hours and got some serious fondness for. So, did Warhaven live up to my expectations? Let's dive into my initial impressions.

What is Warhaven?

Push the payload gameplay

First things first, let's get to know Warhaven a bit. The game throws you into epic 32 player battles, with players clashing swords with each other and working together to so sieze victory. You play on various maps with different objectives on a random rotation. In my play through, I played some capture the flag, push the payload, and capture the point. There are six unique classes to choose from, and I decided to roll with the tanky shield-wielding hero because, well, every good team needs a shield right?

Become an Immortal!

As you queue up for a match, you'll find yourself in a battlefield filled with adrenaline-pumped players. The player count varies from a total of 12 all the way to 32, creating a chaotic melee fighting showdown that reminds me of the Battlefield series, except with swords and axes and hammers. Once in every match, you can become 1 out of 4 immortals of your choice. These guys are game-changers, capable of wiping out a group of enemies with ease. The trick is to time it just right, or you'll end up squandering this incredible power.

For Honor Fans, Rejoice!

If you're like me and you've spent countless hours in For Honor's battle playground, you're in for a treat with Warhaven. The game manages to capture that same essence, but improves the experience in a few ways. The biggest and most obvious improvement for me? For Honor had 4 vs 4 matches, while Warhaven cranks it up to 16 vs16. Trust me, it's a good time running into a capture point with 10 other fighters ready to clash with the enemy forces.

Speaking of combat, it's a tad more approachable than For Honor, in my humble opinion. You can pick up basic combos pretty easily, which gives you a leg up over players who just button-mashing (and in my play experience, there are plenty). The thing with For Honor was that there was a very steep learning curve, and if you gave any hours into that game, you'd know what I mean. There's still skill involved in Warhaven, mind you, but it doesn't feel as daunting as mastering the art of the blade in For Honor.

A Bit of a Grind, But Fair Play

Let's address the elephant in the room - the grind. In Warhaven, you'll need to put in some serious hours to unlock new skins and perks for your character. However, I think that it's a fair grind. The game is free-to-play, after all, and it's comforting to know that combat power can't be bought with real cash. Everyone's got to put in the effort to unlock those sweet combat perks. The cash shop only offers cosmetic skins for your characters and weapons.

Final Thoughts: Warhaven, My New PvP Playground

To sum it up, I've genuinely enjoyed my time in Warhaven so far. As someone who's been itching for that For Honor fix, this game has definitely scratched that itch. It's still fresh and brimming with curious new players, which makes matchmaking a breeze. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for exciting updates that could cement Warhaven as the next big free-to-play title in the world of PvP warfare.

So, there you have it, my first take on Warhaven. If you're a fan of epic PvP battles, a little chaos, and a sprinkle of strategy, Warhaven might just be your new jam.
